SC woman arrested after stealing money from vulnerable adult, AG says
A Greenville woman was arrested after stealing nearly $7,000 from a vulnerable adult for whom she held power of attorney, according to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
Robbie Elise Williams, 32, was charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value more than $2,000 but less than $10,000, according a news release. She faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000 on the exploitation charge and a discretionary fine by the court on the other.
Between June 28, 2024, and Nov. 1, 2024, investigators say Williams improperly used $6,980 in Social Security payments owed to the adult — who had care and support needs — for her own personal benefit, according to the release.
Williams accessed the victim’s monthly Social Security funds while having power of attorney for the victim, the release said.
During the period of exploitation, the victim resided in an assisted living facility in Greenville, according to the release.
Williams was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center on Jan. 23, and will be prosecuted by the Attorney’s General’s Office, the release said.
