A Florence County man was arrested after threatening the life or family of a public official following the death of his brother, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Willie Joe Sanders Jr., 57, of Florence, was charged with four counts of threatening the life, person or family of a public official on Jan. 22, following an incident on Jan. 7, where Sanders communicated the threats to police officers with the Florence Police Department, according to an arrest warrant.

In responding to a call, located at 900 East Cheves Street, officers encountered Sanders who said, “I’m coming for you boy. You got my brother, boy. You got the corpse. My brother won’t be dying in vain ... you won’t get away with this crime boy, according to the warrant.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Sanders’ brother remain unclear, although Sanders was caught on body worn camera footage saying, “You killed my brother, you might as well kill me.” You’re (going to) have a blue light parade, boy.”

Sanders was booked into the Marion County Detention Center.
