1 dead in the Upstate following early Saturday morning shooting, police say
A shooting in the Upstate left a man dead early Saturday, according to the Spartanburg Police Department.
The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. near a residence located at 586 North Center Street, according to a news release. When police arrived, they found a male victim lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite resuscitation efforts by police and EMS, the victim died at the scene, the release said.
The deceased has not yet been identified by the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
The shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim and an unidentified suspect over money, according to witnesses. Police, however, have yet to confirm a motive as no arrests have been made.
“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones,” Major Art Littlejohn of the Spartanburg Police Department said in the release. “Our investigators are actively working to identify those involved.”
One witness described a possible involved individual as a Black male with short hair, wearing a red jacket, and red pants, according to the release.
