A South Carolina man is facing jail time after causing the death of another following a physical altercation, according to the Sumter Police Department.

Jawan M. Mack, 29, of Manning, was charged with voluntary manslaughter after another man later died from injuries during a fight at a Sumter residence, according to a news release.

The fight began as argument between Mack and Kenneth Cooper, 49, during a birthday party on Dec. 21, 2025 at a North Guignard Drive home, the release said.

Cooper was knocked unconscious during the altercation and initially taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital before being transferred to a Columbia hospital, where he later died, according to the release.

Police obtained a warrant for Mack’s arrest amid an ongoing investigation and autopsy report, the release said.

Mack turned himself in to police Tuesday and is being held at the Sumter County jail, where bond was denied, according to the release.
