Sumter man dies of gunshot wound, police investigating

Sumter police are investigating a the circumstances surrounding a shooting that left a 21-year-old Sumter man dead on Tuesday.

Authorities were called to the Tuomey Regional Medical Center at 1:37pm after a gunshot wound victim arrived for treatment.

The victim, Westly Jacquan Davis of 526 Dingle St. in Sumter, had been shot in the upper body. He later died from the wound.

An autopsy will be performed Wednesday, the police said in a news release.
