Bloody victim found after she was attacked with a weapon, SC sheriff says
A woman was bloodied after being hit in the head with a weapon during an attack Wednesday in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
At about 5 p.m., deputies responded to report of an assault in the 500 block of Spindrift Lane, the sheriff’s department said Thursday in a news release. That’s in Columbia, blocks from the intersection with Garners Ferry Road.
Deputies found a victim with a laceration on her head and blood on her clothing, according to the release. They provided medical care for the woman until EMS took her to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
Deputies learned that a person “potentially took the victim’s purse after an argument,” the sheriff’s department said. This prompted the woman to follow the person to try and get her purse back, according to the release. That’s when she was assaulted, the sheriff’s department said.
There was no word about a potential relationship between the victim and her attacker.
It is unclear what type of weapon might have been used in the assault. No arrests have been reported, but the attack continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.
