Former security officer charged with abusing a vulnerable adult, SLED reports
A former security officer at Wellpath Recovery Solutions was arrested after being accused of physically assaulting a vulnerable adult, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Gregory Marcel Higgins, 44, was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult following an incident on June 18, 2025, where investigators say he placed a vulnerable adult in a choke hold and walked them down a hallway, according to an arrest warrant.
The assault occurred at Wellpath, located at 7901 Farrow Road, which is a contracted provider for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
It’s unclear whether the victim, who is a patient at Wellpath, sustained any injuries.
Allegations against Higgins were corroborated by interviews, surveillance videos and information provided to SLED, according to the warrant.
Higgins was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
