A former daycare worker at Shaw Air Force Base has been indicted following allegations that he assaulted several small children on multiple occasions, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for South Carolina.

Tyrel L. Mack, 29, of Florence, was handed down a seven-count indictment by a federal grand jury in Columbia after investigators say he assaulted four different children under age 5 on seven different occasions, according to a news release.

In November 2025, Mack, an employee at a child development and youth center on Shaw Air Force Base, was assigned to work in a classroom serving children from 3- to 5-years old, the release said. During this time, Mack allegedly kicked, hit, struck and intentionally stepped on the victims, according to the release.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Squadron, the release said.

If convicted, Mack faces a maximum penalty of one year in prison for each of the seven assault charges.
