A 49-year-old woman has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars from a vulnerable adult, the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office said.

Dennie Lynn Driver, of Lexington and an employee of the Rapha Residential Care Center in Gaston, is charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and breach of trust with fraudulent intent between $2,000 and $10,000.

Between May 21 and Aug. 20 of last year, Driver allegedly misused the money of a vulnerable adult, who lived at the care facility, unlawfully for personal gain or benefit.

Rapha Residential Care reported the suspected financial exploitation to law enforcement, the attorney general’s office said. Facility staff fully cooperated during the investigation, a news release said.

The investigation was conducted by the state’s Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Driver is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center. No bond has been set.

Driver faces up to 5 years in prison on each charge.
