They didn’t fall off truck. SC lottery tickets stolen by FedEx driver, cops say
A FedEx delivery driver who stole South Carolina Education Lottery tickets from an Upstate facility was recently arrested, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
On Feb. 27, Averious Jethomas Ajee Griffin was arrested for stealing multiple scratch-off lottery games from the back of a FedEx delivery truck, an arrest warrant shows.
The 31-year-old Greenville County resident was charged with lottery/attempting to influence a game by tampering, SLED said in a news release.
The charge stems from a Dec. 10, 2025, incident at the FedEx facility on Evergreen Road in Anderson, according to an arrest warrant. That’s near Exit 27 on I-85.
Griffin opened a South Carolina Education Lottery package containing scratch-off tickets then took them from the delivery truck, the arrest warrant said. Griffin hid the lottery tickets in his personal vehicle before taking them to his Piedmont home, according to the arrest warrant.
Griffin was booked into the Anderson County Detention Center, SLED said in the release. Information about Griffin’s bond was not available, but he’s not listed on the jail’s inmate roster.
The South Carolina Education Lottery asked SLED to lead an investigation, and Griffin will be prosecuted by the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, according to the release.
If convicted on the felony charge, Griffin faces a maximum punishment of 5 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, according to South Carolina law.
