SC correctional officer charged after sharing obscene videos, liquor with inmate
A former correctional officer was arrested after being caught sharing obscene material amid an inappropriate relationship with an inmate, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Between Aug. 15, 2025 and Jan. 15, 2026, Zoe Maple — a sworn correctional officer at Wateree River Correctional Institution in Sumter — engaged in a romantic relationship with an inmate while providing obscene material of herself via cell phone transmissions, according to an arrest warrant. Zoe also conspired to furnish the inmate with alcohol inside the prison.
She was charged Feb. 26 with providing prisoners contraband, dissemination of obscenity and misconduct in office after resigning from her post, a news release said.
At the inmate’s request, Maple delivered four plastic bottles containing alcohol — Everclear — disguised as water to the inmate and received $140 for each bottle, according to an arrest warrant.
Evidence against Maple was corroborated by her confession and an investigation by the department’s Office of Inspector General, according to the warrant.
She was booked into the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center where she was released on a $20,000 bond, according to court records.
