One person was killed Saturday morning when a pickup truck ran off a Midlands road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 9:20 a.m. in Lexington County, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.

The driver, operating a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck, was headed west on Westwoods Drive near Distant Lane before traveling off the road to the right, according to Ridgeway. The pickup then crashed into a tree, causing the truck to overturn, Ridgeway said.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene and has not yet been identified by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Ridgeway said.

No other injuries were reported.
