Midlands man arrested in theft of thousands in jewelry from Kay, police say

A Midlands man was arrested after robbing a jewelry store where he stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Wayne Pondexter Jr., 27, was charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following a robbery at Kay Jewelers on Fort Jackson Boulevard on Dec. 15, 2025, according to a news release.

Three victims present during the robbery were injured, the release said.

Pondexter remains housed at the Sumter County Detention Center, where he was previously booked on similar charges, according to the release.
