One person died in a crash in Orangeburg County Friday evening, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 8 p.m. Friday and involved two vehicles, including a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe and 1990 Kawasaki dirt bike, Master Trooper William Bennett said Saturday.

The SUV was heading east on U.S. 178 near the intersection with Boyd Road, while the dirt bike was traveling west. The SUV struck the dirt bike as it was turning left into a driveway, Bennett said.

The operator of the dirt bike was taken to MUSC Organgeburg, where they later died, Bennett said.

The driver of the SUV was the only occupant and was not injured, according to Bennett.

The deceased has not yet been identified by the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
