Wake was sight of ambush where three people were shot, South Carolina police say
Nearly two months after multiple people were shot in an ambush at a wake a South Carolina man was arrested on several charges, according to the Florence Police Department.
Kevion Faison, 21, was booked into the Florence County Detention Center early Tuesday morning, jail records show.
The Florence resident was charged with four counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, aggravated breach of peace and criminal conspiracy, police said in a news release.
The charges are connected to a Feb. 6, shooting in the 1300 Block of Tallulah Street in Florence, according to the release. That’s near Exit 164 on I-95.
Investigators determined that several people arrived at the home where a wake was being held, police said. Information about who was being memorialized at the wake was not available.
Faison, and another person who was not publicly identified but called a co-defendant, waited inside a gray-colored vehicle for “the victims to arrive,” an arrest warrant said. When the victims got to the wake, Faison and the co-defendant began shooting at their vehicle, according to the arrest warrant.
There were four people in that vehicle who were targeted with gunfire, and three of them were shot, the arrest warrant shows. The victims received treatment and have since been released from medical care, police said. Further information on their conditions was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
A house across the street also was hit by gunfire, as the front door was riddled with bullets, according to the arrest warrant.
A witness who saw Faison and his co-defendant “a minute” before the shooting positively identified the pair, the arrest warrant shows.
There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or how the suspects were acquainted with the victims prior to the gunfire.
On Feb. 26, police were told that Faison was at a gun store in Florence County where he was trying to buy a firearm, police said. Although he left the business — without buying a weapon — before law enforcement officers arrived, he was eventually located by police Monday and arrested without incident, police said.
He was taken to the detention center where he remained locked up Tuesday while waiting for a bond hearing, according to the release.
There was no word if the co-defendant has been arrested, or if that person is wanted by police.
