SC man fires into occupied car and then shot in the abdomen, deputies say
In a case of what appears to be instant karma, a shooting suspect was the only one injured and now is behind bars, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Marquise Fairey, 20, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The charges stem from an incident on March 13, where Fairey, while masked, fired multiple shots into a car containing a woman and her son at a Valero gas station in Orangeburg County, according to an arrest warrant. The victim’s son returned fire and struck Fairey in the stomach.
Wounded, Fairey fled the scene before being located by deputies, the warrant said.
Fairey told deputies he’d been shot by a male in a black sedan, according to the warrant.
Upon reviewing video surveillance from the gas station, deputies discovered Fairey had fired first, the warrant said.
“This was certainly this individual’s unlucky day,” Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in a news release. “The only way he was lucky that day was because he wasn’t killed.”
Upon his release from the hospital, Fairey was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center where he was denied bond Monday, a news release said.
