Coroner ID’s victim who died after Columbia apartment shooting, SC officials say

An investigation is underway after a 65-year-old man was shot late Wednesday night in South Carolina, according to the Columbia Police Department.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, police said the victim died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting.

Perry Buchanan, 65, of Columbia, was identified as the victim of the shooting by the Richland County Coroner’s Office on Friday morning.

At about 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at Gable Oaks Apartments where they discovered the victim, police said Thursday on social media. That’s on Colleton Street, in a part of Columbia between North Main Street and Fairfield Road.

A 65-year-old man was shot in what police called an isolated incident. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about the shooter, or shooters, and if any more people were involved, was not available. There was no word about a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported by police, who continue to investigate the shooting.
