Early morning fire at Columbia apartment complex displaces several residents

An early morning fire at Columbia apartment complex Saturday left several people without a home, according to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department.

Fire crews working the overnight shift were dispatched at around 2 a.m. Saturday to a fire that had broken out among apartment homes on Summit Terrace Court. Battling through high winds and rapidly changing conditions, first-responders rescued one person from the 2-alarm fire, according to a post by the fire department on X.

In the wake of the blaze, three homes were severely impacted and deemed uninhabitable, displacing a total of seven people, the post said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office, according to the post.
