Two teens kidnapped by armed man who brought them to the woods, SC sheriff says

A South Carolina man was charged with multiple crimes after two teenagers were kidnapped and brought to a wooded area in the Midlands, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The 15-year-olds managed to escape from the secluded area in the Calhoun County woods where they were brought by Darrius Gilmore, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release.

Gilmore is a Richland County resident, according to the release.

Information about when and where the kidnapping/abduction occurred was not available. The 21-year-old Gilmore was arrested March 28, Calhoun County court records show.

He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of possession of a firearm during a violent crime and discharging a firearm into a vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Details about the kidnapping, and what Gilmore is accused of doing to be charged with attempted murder was not available.

The sheriff’s office did not report any injuries.

There was no word about how the teens escaped, or how long it took law enforcement to connect Gilmore to the crimes and track him down.

Gilmore’s bond was set at $500,000 on the combined charges, according to court records.

“This was a senseless act of violence, but this arrest shows that accountability always follows.” Sheriff Thomas Summers said in the release.
