Former SC volunteer firefighter indicted on embezzlement, misconduct charges

A former volunteer firefighter with the Southside Fire Department in Union County was indicted after stealing thousands of dollars from the department, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Eugene Bishop, 59, was indicted by a grand jury for embezzlement of public funds and misconduct in office, March 26, according to a news release.

Between May 1, 2025, and February 26, Bishop, who while serving as board chair for the department, is accused of misappropriating more than $10,000 for his own personal use, according to the indictment.

He was booked into the Union County Detention Center.
