A South Carolina woman was arrested for allegedly shooting a person holding her child, according to a news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were dispatched to Audrey Lane in Dentsville on Thursday around 7:20 p.m. following a ShotSpotter alert. That’s in a neighborhood near Columbia Place Mall. They were then advised that someone was struck by gunfire in the area of the ShotSpotter alert nearby on Nancy Avenue.

When they arrived, deputies found two pools of blood and witness, officials said.

After further investigating, deputies found that the suspect, 29-year-old Khila Wood, struck the victim in the head with a handgun during an argument. Then Wood and the victim fought over the firearm and she shot the victim while they were “holding their child they have in common,” according to a news release.

Wood and the victim left together, officials said, and the victim was dropped off at a local hospital for a gunshot wound.

She later called the sheriff’s department headquarters and told them where she was off of Spears Creek Church Road, according to a news release. Wood, 29, was charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, as well as unlawful conduct towards a child.

Wood, who had sustained injuries during the physical altercation, was placed under arrest and taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Upon being released from the hospital, Wood was taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. She is awaiting a bond hearing, officials said.
