Midlands man found dead, washed up at Savannah River, coroner says

A man was found dead during a missing person search at the Savannah River, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

The man was found Wednesday around 9 a.m. by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and divers with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, according to a news release. The body was located just off the Jackson boat ramp on the Savannah River, located at 620 Landing Road in Jackson.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the scene at pronounced the 54-year-old dead at 10:16 a.m., the release said.

Although foul play isn’t currently suspected, an autopsy will occur in Newberry later this week, the release said.

The deceased will not be identified until the next of kin is notified, according to the release.
