Officer-involved shooting in the Upstate leaves one dead, SLED says

One person is dead following a traffic stop in Anderson County, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Austin Derrell Robertson, 32, of Pennsylvania, was shot and killed by deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop on I-85 near mile marker 11 on Monday, according to a news release.

The shooting occurred after a deputy was speaking with Robertson, who was seated inside a patrol vehicle. When a second deputy arrived on scene, Robertson exited the patrol vehicle and a physical altercation ensued between him and the deputies, the release said.

Robertson eventually retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and shot one of the deputies, prompting return fire from the deputies, according to the release.

Robertson was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

The injured deputy was airlifted to an area hospital where he remains. His condition remains unknown.
