One person was killed early Saturday when a tractor trailer and sedan collided in the Lowcountry, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 4:30 a.m. on in I-26 in Dorchester County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson.

A 2013 Freightliner semi truck and a 2013 Hyundai sedan were both traveling east on I-26 before both vehicles collided near the mile marker 172, Davidson said. Upon crashing into the semi, the Hyundai overturned several times, leaving the driver — the sole occupant — dead.

The deceased has not yet been identified by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

No other injures were reported.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Davidson said.
