One person killed in shooting, South Carolina sheriff says

One person was killed and another was taken into custody Saturday following a shooting in South Carolina, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said deputies responded to reports of a shooting. Information about where the shooting occurred and when it happened was not available.

Deputies found a shooting victim and attempted to provide aid, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim.

No other injuries were reported.

No arrests have been reported, but the sheriff’s office said that a person of interest has been taken into custody.

There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or if any other people were involved in the incident, but it continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office called the shooting an isolated incident, saying “the community is not in danger.”
