Head-on collision in the Midlands leaves one person dead, SC coroner says

A woman died following a head-on collision in the Midlands, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Friday in the five thousand block of Whiskey Road near Ping Way in Aiken, according to a news release.

A 2024 Kia Sorrento was heading north on Whiskey Road when it was hit head-on by a 2026 Ford F-150 traveling south and attempting to turn into a private driveway, the release said.

The operator of the Kia, Carla Garvin, 46, was pronounced dead on scene at 4:19 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.

The driver of the Ford was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

The crash remains under investigation by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
