Man arrested after two people were shot and one died, SC sheriff says
One man is in a South Carolina jail after two people were shot over the weekend, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
David Jackson, 21, was originally charged with two counts of attempted murder, but one of those counts was upgraded to murder after one of the shooting victims died, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
The shooting happened Sunday, according to the release.
At about 8:45 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Saluda River Road, the sheriff’s department said. That’s in Columbia, near the intersection of Broad River Road and Greystone Boulevard.
Deputies found two victims, one who had been shot in both the upper and lower body as well as the other who was shot in the lower body, according to the release.
The victims were taken to an area hospital by EMS, the sheriff’s department said.
On Monday morning, one of the victims died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting, according to the release.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified that victim.
Further information on the surviving victim’s condition was not available.
Jackson was identified as the shooting suspect and was detained at the scene Sunday. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remains locked up as no bond has been set, jail records show.
In addition to the upgraded murder charge and the other attempted murder charge, Jackson is also facing a count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said.
There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or if Jackson had any connection with the victims before the gunfire.
