Chase that started at Walmart ends with wanted man arrested, Columbia police say

A wanted man was arrested following a foot chase that began at a Walmart in South Carolina on Wednesday, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Qu’mond Seawright, who was wanted on multiple charges stemming from a shooting incident — including gun crimes — was taken into custody following the chase at the Walmart Supercenter at 7520 Garners Ferry Road, police said in a news release. That’s near Exit 9 on I-77 in Columbia.

Further information about the shooting that led to Seawright become a wanted man was not available.

Seawright was identified, and when officers tried to make contact with the wanted man he ran away through the Walmart parking lot, according to the release.

A pursuit began, and officers quickly coordinated their efforts, resulting in the safe apprehension of Seawright, police said. A second person involved in the incident also was taken into custody, according to the release. The second person was not publicly identified, and there was no word what, if any charges, that person faces.

No officers or members of the public were injured, police said.

Seawright was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he was charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature as well as breach of peace (aggravated in nature), jail records show. No bond has been set for the 20-year-old who remains locked up, according to jail records.

“Thanks to the vigilance and proactive efforts of our officers and investigators, he is now in custody and no longer considered a fugitive,” police said in the release.
