Two women are facing criminal charges after allegedly spanking children at a daycare in Barnwell, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Jessica Yvonne Creech,41, and Yontia Jannay Grant, 36, were charged Thursday with cruelty to children, according to a news release.

The charges stem from an incident on March 13, where both women, while working as teachers at Smart Start Daycare — located at 8230 Marlboro Avenue — struck two separate children as a means of punishment, according to affidavits.

Specifically, Grant hit a child with a blue ruler for misbehaving, according to the report.

Both children were interviewed by investigators and confirmed the same along with other witnesses, the affidavits said.

Creech and Grant were booked into the Barnwell County Detention Center.
