Updated: One person dead following shooting in Columbia. Police investigating

A man died after being transported to an area hospital in critical condition following a shooting at an extended stay, according to the Columbia Police Department.

The shooting occurred Monday at Siegel Select Extended Stay Living, located at 150 Stoneridge Drive, according to a news release.

Once on scene, officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. EMS rendered aid to the man before transporting him to an area hospital, where he later died, according to a second news release on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Justin Brown, the release said.

Police are actively investigating the circumstances of the shooting and are searching for suspects, according to the release.
