SC man charged with murder, attempted murder in drive-by shooting, SLED says
A York County man was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges following a drive-by shooting that left a 16-year-old and at least one other injured in Chester County, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Dayvontae Lamont Adams, 25, was charged Wednesday with murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection to a drive-by shooting on May 3 on Pinckney Street around 8:18 p.m., according to a news release.
Investigators allege Adams, while firing from a 2014 Ford Focus, shot and killed 16-year-old Avery West, according to an arrest warrant. West was pronounced dead at the scene.
Attempted murder charges against Adams stem from at least one other person — an unidentified 17-year-old — being injured after shot in the back, according to a warrant.
Charges against Adams were substantiated by video surveillance, witness statements and a co-defendant’s statement, according to the report.
Earlier in the investigation, John-David Estes, 21, on May 5 and Quentin Craig Jr., 24, on May 9 — each were charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder, according to a news release. Kenyetta Adrryll Sims, 53, was also charged on May 7 with accessory after the fact to murder.
Adams was booked into the Chester County Detention Center.
SLED said the investigation is ongoing. The Chester Police Department and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office are assisting.
