Police say stolen truck flees, crashes into other cars during SC traffic stop

Two people are critically injured after a crash involving a stolen truck on Thursday, according to the Sumter Police Department.

Officials said a Sumter police officer initiated a traffic stop of a truck around 12:43 p.m. on Alice Drive near Gion Street when the driver, Shamona Nicole McFadden, 45, sped away and crashed into two other vehicles.

The truck was reported stolen in Richland County.

McFadden, of Eastover, was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey and treated for her injuries, before being booked at a county detention center.

Two passengers, women ages 43 and 53 of Williamsburg County, were in the stolen pickup at the time of the crash. They suffered injuries and were flown from the scene to a Columbia hospital, according to a news release. They are in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.

McFadden was charged with driving under suspension, possession of a stolen vehicle, providing false information to police and two counts of failure to stop for blue lights resulting in great bodily harm.

She was wanted on a bench warrant in Richland County and on a probation violation, Sumter police said.

The Sumter Police Department is investigating the incident, according to a news release. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
