Orangeburg County investigators identify suspect wanted in fatal nightclub shooting
Orangeburg County investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for a North Carolina man they believe to be the suspect in a nightclub shooting that killed one and wounded several others.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 30-year-old Nazdric Gates, of My. Airy, is wanted for murder after he allegedly shot and killed a club-goer at the Pit Stop Pub early Saturday morning.
Ravenell said after Gates was involved in an altercation in the club, he left in a tan vehicle with tinted windows, but not before he pointed a firearm out of the vehicle’s window firing several shots into a crowd standing outside of the club.
Christavious Darby, 22, was wounded in the shooting and pronounced dead at the scene. Three other men were also injured in the shooting and were treated at a local hospital for non life-threatening wounds. Darby was not a part of the altercation, Ravenell said.
Gates is described as a black male, standing 5-foot 8-inches tall and weighs about 185 pounds. Ravenell said witnesses described Gates as having short dreadlocks the night of the shooting.
If anyone has information on Gates’ location they are urged to call the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office (803) 534-3550, or Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
