Cocaine, meth, marijuana seized in SC drug bust; 11 dogs also taken, cops say
A man has been charged with drug possession and animal cruelty after a search warrant led to the discovery of a “significant quantity” of drugs and 11 pit bulls at a South Carolina home, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.
On Wednesday, investigators with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office executed a drug-related search warrant at 2496 Windsor Road in Springfield as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation, officials said.
About 2,700 grams of cocaine, nine pounds of marijuana and 65 grams of methamphetamine were found and seized, along with 5 dosage units of a Schedule II controlled substance, which was identified as Oxycodone, officials said. One semi-automatic handgun and $8,000 were also taken as evidence.
Charles Edward Johnson Jr. is charged with trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Aiken County Code Enforcement also seized 11 pit bull dogs, according to a new release.
In addition to drug-related charges, Aiken County Animal Control charged Johnson with animal cruelty.
Johnson had been out on bond for previous trafficking charges. Those charges stemmed from a separate narcotics investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office in 2022, officials said, when some 500 grams of cocaine and 3,100 grams of methamphetamine were found at the same address.
The investigation into Wednesday’s incident are ongoing and may result in additional charges or arrests.
