SLED investigating officer-involved shooting in Cowpens
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cowpens that occurred Wednesday, according to SLED officials.
Thom Berry, a SLED spokesman, said SLED agents were requested to investigate the incident after a Cowpens police officer fired a shot at a man’s vehicle during a drug sting operation. There were no injuries reported during the shooting.
Berry said there was no dash cam video available and that agents are conducting interviews along with gathering and analyzing forensic evidence. No further information regarding the shooting was disclosed.
This is the 32nd officer-involved shooting in the state in 2015 and the first this year involving the Cowpens Police Department. In 2014, there were 42 officer-involved shooting incidents in the state, none of which involved a Cowpens police officer.
