A former S.C. Department of Corrections nursing supervisor was arrested after an investigation found she had sex with an inmate, according to the department.

Courtney Williams, 36, of Swansea, was charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with an inmate and bribery Wednesday, according to a news release.

Between March 30 and May 29, investigators say Williams engaged in a sexual relationship with an inmate at Kirkland Correctional Institution. The pair exchanged more than 1,000 text messages — including sexually explicit message and photos — phone calls and video calls on a contraband cell phone possessed by the inmate, according to an arrest warrant.

Williams, who worked as a nurse at Kirkland and the state’s Department of Juvenile Justice, resigned from the department in April after an investigation into her conduct began, a release said.

Communications between the pair confirmed Williams had sex with the inmate, a warrant said. The allegations were also corroborated by digital forensic extractions of the inmate’s and William’s cell phones, video footage and witness statements, according to the warrant.
