A South Carolina man has been identified and arrested following an officer-involved shooting in West Columbia earlier this month, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Thomas Deanglo Waring, 32, was charged Thursday with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a felon, according to a news release.

Waring’s arrest follows an incident on June 10, when officers with the West Columbia Police Department responded to an apartment building in the 500 block of North Brown Street, in response to a call of shots fired. That’s in a part of Lexington County between U.S. 378/Sunset Boulevard and U.S. 1/Augusta Road, about two miles from the Gervais Street bridge and downtown Columbia.

Upon arriving on scene, officers encountered Waring wielding a Sig Saur P365 9mm handgun, which he fired multiple times at an officer, according to an arrest warrant.

After officers returned fire, both Waring and one officer were transported to an area hospital. The officer was released from the hospital a day later.

Although it’s unclear when Waring was discharged from the hospital, he was subsequently arrested and charged in connection to the shooting.

No other injuries were reported.

Multiple shell casings from Waring’s weapon were recovered from the scene, and evidence against the man was corroborated by video recordings of the incident and witness statements, the warrant said.

Waring was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
