Armed man shot and killed by South Carolina police, SLED says

An armed man was recently shot and killed by police, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Brodie Reese, 31, is the man who died during the incident involving Clinton Police Department officers, SLED said Tuesday in a news release.

On Sunday, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex on Musgrove Street, SLED said in the release. That’s near Presbyterian College in Laurens County.

The disturbance involved a weapon, according to police. Information about the type of weapon was not available, and there was no word if anyone was injured during the domestic disturbance.

Inside an apartment, officers encountered an armed man, later identified as Reese, inside the apartment and officers shot him, according to the release.

Reese died at the scene, SLED said.

No law enforcement officers were injured, according to the release.

SLED said police asked it to lead an investigation into the shooting.

This incident was the 20th shooting involving a law enforcement officer in South Carolina this year, and there were 45 such incidents in 2025, according to the release.
