Lexington County deputies charge Gaston man with murder

Lexington County deputies have charged a Gaston man with murder after he allegedly beat a female victim to death, according to officials.

Capt. Adam Myrick, a department spokesman, said 41-year-old Peter Lynn Coffey allegedly killed Joanne White Taylor sometime between August 7 and August 9. Coffey has also been charged with sexually assaulting Taylor.

Sheriff Jay Koon said Coffey was connected to physical evidence found at the scene. He also said Coffey is believed to have known the victim and had a prior relationship with her.

Coffey has been transported to the Lexington County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing, Myrick said.
