Man dies after found hanged at detention center in Moncks Corner

According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, an inmate in the Hill-Finklea Detention Center died after he was found hanging in his cell.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said Dustin James Powell was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead after being found alone in his cell on Aug. 21. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and SLED are investigating the death of the 28-year-old Cottageville man, which will include an autopsy.
