Richland County coroner identifies victim killed in apartment complex shooting
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was killed Monday evening after a shooting occurred at an apartment complex near Broad River Road.
Coroner Gary Watts said 21-year-old Khalil Rashad Harris, of Columbia, died from multiple guns from complications of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. .
Richland County sheriff’s deputies are continuing to investigate the shooting incident in which Harris was killed.
Harris Lt. Curtis Wilson, sheriff’s department spokesman, said deputies responded to The Views on Longcreek apartment complex, located at 1800 Longcreek Dr. off Broad River Road, in reference to a shots-fired call.
Wilson said when deputies arrived, they located Harris lying in between a vehicle and a moped by building 14. Harris was unresponsive and had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Harris was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Wilson said.
Richland County investigators are still in the area questioning witnesses and acquaintances of the victim to determine a motive and suspect in connection to the shooting, Wilson said.
