Richland County sheriff’s deputies will not press charges against a Horrell Hill Elementary School student after he stabbed another student who was bullying him, officials said.

Lt. Curtis Wilson, a department spokesman, said deputies were dispatched to the school at 2 p.m. on Monday in reference to an altercation between two students. When deputies arrived, they were informed that one student had stabbed another student, who was bullying the first student, in the foot with a hair-pick handle.

Wilson said the student who was stabbed had non life-threatening injuries. The deputies decided, he said, that the student was acting in self defense and no charges were to be filed against the student.
