Columbia police investigate shooting near Monticello Road

Columbia police are investigating a shooting that wounded one Tuesday evening, according to department officials.

Jennifer Timmons, a department spokeswoman, said officers responded to the 4600 block of Ridgewood Avenue near Monticello Road in reference to a shots-fired call. When officers arrived, they found one victim who sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body.

Timmons said an initial investigation revealed the victim was involved in an altercation when he was shot. The victim’s wounds, Timmons said, appear to be non life threatening.
