Woman charged after driving off from stop, dragging officer

A 24-year-old woman is charged with attempted murder after driving off from a traffic stop and dragging a Greenville police officer 10 feet before crashing into a pole.

Police spokesman Johnathan Bragg said Kayla King of Inman also is charged with kidnapping, driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and failure to stop.

Police say two officers approached either side of King’s car about 1 a.m. Friday. When she would not exit her car, the officer on the passenger side opened the door to unbuckle her seat belt.

Police say that’s when she started the engine and drove off. The officer on the passenger side was thrown inside. The officer at the driver’s side door was dragged. Both King and the officer were treated at a hospital.
