Two in hospital after one run over by ATV, one shot in Lugoff

Richland County deputies say two men are in the hospital when one was run over by a four-wheeler and the other was shot following an ongoing dispute.

Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said deputies responded to the 1100 block Spring Creek Road near Screaming Eagle Drive in Lugoff in reference to an assault.

Lawrence said when deputies arrived, they met with both people involved in the dispute. Deputies learned that the men were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical.

The man who was driving the four-wheeler was confronted by the other who was carrying a shotgun, Lawrence said. That was when the man on the four-wheeler drove over the other. The man carrying the shotgun was able to get to his feet and fired several shots at the man on the four-wheeler, striking him once in the upper body.

It is unclear why the two men were in an argument, but deputies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation, Lawrence said.

Both men were transported to local hospitals where they are being treated for non life-threatening injuries, Lawrence said.
