A 24-mile police chase late Thursday night led to a Seneca man’s arrest in Walhalla.

Steven Lamar Wilson, 35, faces multiple charges after an Oconee County Sheriff’s deputy first spotted a Toyata Highlander driven by Wilson traveling the wrong direction on Highway 11 in Walhalla, officials said.

When the officer attempted to stop the Highlander, the driver made a sudden turn, sped up and did not stop.

After a long pursuit, the Highlander was stopped by deploy stop sticks, which deflated the driver’s side tires. The vehicle drove down an embankment and came to a stop near Snow Creek, officials said. Wilson ran from deputies and was later arrested without incident, officials said.

The vehicle Wilson was driving belonged to an individual currently being held at the Oconee County detention center.

Wilson is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, driving under suspension and driving left of center. He also had an outstanding bench warrant from the city of Seneca at the time of his arrest.
