Most Wanted suspect arrested after manhunt in Sumter County

Following a three-hour manhunt Monday, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on its Most Wanted list.

Kevin Charles Kellenbenz, 42, was arrested after being spotted on Bell Road near U.S. 401 at approximately 8 p.m., three hours after the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said it received an anonymous tip that the Sumter resident was hiding at a residence in the Oswego community, Public Information Officer Braden Bunch said.

According to Bunch, Kellenbenz had multiple warrants for his arrest for violent crimes — including armed robbery and weapons charges. Bunch said Kellenbenz was named to the Sheriff’s Office’s Most Wanted list last week after running from officers during a traffic stop.

Bunch said the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate Kellenbenz, and additional arrests for harboring a fugitive are possible.
