Richland County deputies investigate shooting after argument over $40
Richland County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting that broke out in the Folkstone Community that left one man in serious condition Tuesday evening, officials said.
Lt. Curtis Wilson, a department spokesman, said deputies were dispatched to the Palmetto Northeast Hospital at around 9 p.m. in reference to a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies later met with several witnesses who said an argument over $40 began between a female acquaintance of the victim and the suspect.
Wilson said the suspect assaulted the female victim who was able to flee the area. The female victim then returned with her acquaintance in order to search for the suspect. Once they located the suspect on Mallet Hill Road off of Sparkleberry Lane, Wilson said, the suspect walked up to the victim’s car and fired multiple shots at the victim as he exited the vehicle.
The female acquaintance drove the victim to the hospital where he underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, Wilson said. The victim remains in the hospital where he remains in stable but serious condition.
Richland County sheriff’s deputies are continuing to investigate the shooting, Wilson said.
If anyone has information regarding the shooting they are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
