Columbia police are continuing to search for new leads that may help them find the person responsible for severely injuring a young nurse three years ago, according to officials.

Chief Skip Holbrook said Wednesday marks the three-year anniversary of a hit-and-run incident that injured Lindsay Bires. According to reports, Bires was standing on the sidewalk around 2:25 am, Sept. 12, 2012, while taking a break from her overnight shift at Palmetto Richland Hospital where she worked as a cardiac nurse.

Witnesses would later tell police a small, white car came careening down Medical Park Drive, forcing them to jump out of the way. The vehicle struck Bires before fleeing the scene of the incident, Holbrook said.

Bires, a former USC student from Massachusetts, was seriously injured and continues intense physical and speech therapy during what her family characterizes as an “extremely difficult” road to recovery.

Police do not know the make or model of the car. They also don’t know if any passengers were inside or where the car was headed.

A $25,000 reward is still being offered for information regarding the case.

If anyone has information that can aid investigators, they are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
