Uncle, nephew duo face murder charges in Orangeburg County killing
An uncle and nephew duo who were found in Washington D.C. by Orangeburg County investigators are facing murder charges after they allegedly shot and killed a man during an armed robbery attempt in August, officials said.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 24-year-old Jeremy Houser, of Orangeburg, was charged Wednesday with murder after he and his uncle, 48-year-old Darrin Houser, of St. Matthews, allegedly shot and killed 56-year-old Anthony Patterson.
Ravenell said on Aug. 26 the Housers lured Patterson and another victim into Darrin Houser’s Gretta Lane residence near the Calhoun and Orangeburg county line before firing several shots at them. Patterson was struck in the upper body and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Two days after the shooting, Darrin Houser was located in Washington D.C. by investigators and returned to South Carolina. Jeremy Houser was later found on Sept. 9 and was extradited to South Carolina earlier this week, Ravenell said.
Darrin Houser is facing first-degree burglary and murders charges in connection with the case, while Jeremy Houser faces a charge of murder.
Darrin Houser is being held at the Orangeburg County Detention Center without bond, and Jeremy Houser will have to make a bond request before a circuit court judge at a later date.
